Surely the idea is to apply theory to the practice, in this case, what's wrong with the course as described a couple a posts ago.  You're talking again as though academic knowledge is separate from the practice. And this, despite your saying that "the erroneous assumption that problems such as 'lack of motivation' (whatever that is, anyway) simply lie 'within' faulty individuals." And this is what I said aloso in my first post. So much for rational thought. That's academics for ya.

Hi Sue

I'm all up for debate and discussion, and its not about keeping riff-raff off the list. I doubt that someone running psychotherapy workshops on a for-profit basis would meet most people's definition of riff-raff anyway!

And yes, sharing academic knowledge is important: but there are plenty of other places to share knowledge of/advertising about mindulness therapy. In my view, this community psychology list is not one of them. I don't way to see this forum hijacked and turned into another branch of mainstream individualistic therapy-peddling.

But hey its not *my* list: others could, and no doubt do, disagree. Let's have a debate.....

As the academic you are, I would hope that you would want to see academic knowledge brought into the public sphere more, so that what could be considered inappropriate forms of treatment in the real world can be adapted to a changing society.

If you would prefer to keep separate the academic world and the practical one, it is certainly within your power to do so. But surely such a place as academia relies on what is going on in society to inform its research. Otherwise, all research would become an academic excercise, not based in reality.  Maybe you would just prefer to keep the riff-raff off this list - this list - though not encourage all lists to do the same. Sort of a compromise in mindfulness.
