Dyma ddiffiniadau o ''self-directed learning" o'r we:
 
A process in which students take the initiative to diagnose their learning needs, formulate learning goals, identify resources for learning, select and implement learning strategies and evaluate learning outcomes.
 
The learner is able to control and direct their learning at a pace agreed by the student, parents and teacher advisor.
 
A learning environment in which students are given a great deal of responsibility for and input into their own learning. The role of the teacher becomes to facilitate or guide learning rather than direct it.
 
Felly ai 'cyfeirio' ynteu 'cyfarwyddo' yw'r 'direct' yma?  Byddwn i'n tueddu i ffafrio'r ail.
 
Mantais y Saesneg, wrth gwrs, yw bod 'direct' yn gallu cynnwys y ddwy ystyr.
