PhD Bursary in Sociology

School of Languages and Social Sciences


The School of Languages and Social Sciences at 
Aston University is offering one or more 
bursaries to enable candidates to undertake fully 
funded research. The School's vibrant research 
culture (Grade 5 rating in the last RAE) provides 
a stimulating intellectual environment. 
Studentships include maintenance at AHRC rates, 
currently £12,000 per annum (up to a maximum of 
three years) and the waiving of University fees 
(EU £3,085, non-EU £8,500). Applications are 
invited in the following areas: Social Change, 
Social Inequality, Globalization, Health and 
Illness, Education, Risk and the Environment and 
Work and Labour. A Masters degree in a relevant 
subject area would be required.

Successful candidates will be invited to start 
before the end of July or as soon as possible 
thereafter. Candidates will be expected to make a 
teaching contribution of up to four hours per 
week and to provide research assistance of up to 
two hours per week to supervisors and/or 
convenors of relevant research centres.
