NORTH PENNINES AONB PARTNERSHIP 

Temporary Area Co-ordinator (West & Historic Environment) 
Grade PO1 - 3 £25,437 - £29,859 p.a.
 (Initial 6 Month Maternity Cover with possibility of extension)

The North Pennines AONB Partnership, the joint advisory body for the North 
Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), is seeking to appoint 
an enthusiastic person with experience of the protection and conservation 
of the historic environment within the context of protected area 
management, who will help to conserve the special qualities of the North 
Pennines, support the conservation efforts of local communities and help 
people enjoy and understand the local countryside. 

You will join a team of seven core posts and six project posts within the 
AONB Staff Unit. The core posts such as the one offered are financially 
supported by the Countryside Agency and the area’s nine local authorities. 
You will have a thematic lead within the team, developing the AONB-wide 
role of the Partnership’s Historic Environment Working Group and will lead 
the AONB team’s work in this field. As well as your thematic lead you will 
also have a geographical focus, supporting projects and initiatives in the 
Cumbrian part of the AONB The post is based in the AONB Partnership office 
in Stanhope, Weardale, and will be employed by the Partnership’s host 
authority, Durham County Council.

You should preferably be qualified to degree level or equivalent in a 
historic environment based subject (archaeology, building conservation or 
historic landscapes) and have significant relevant experience. Applicants 
without a degree may be considered if they have greater experience. A 
track record of successful work in partnership with a wide variety of 
public, private and voluntary sector organisations is essential and a good 
understanding of protected landscape management a distinct advantage.
