Have you seen the IC’s code of practice
(http://www.ico.gov.uk/documentUploads/cctvcop1.pdf)? It suggests retention
of CCTV footage for 28 days unless for evidence purposes, in which case it
should be retained until after any possible appeal period.

We replace tapes in our control centre every 24 hours and retain them for 30
days before they are re-used in sequence. If the police have requested a
tape for evidence of a crime, the tape is obviously marked and held
separately for the police to collect.

In light of DPA – what retention and disposal decisions/recommendations have
organisations made about CCTV data especially images? We have looked at the
IC’s guidance about purpose, but that seems immaterial when thinking about
retention and disposal.

(It’s nice when someone asks, not nice to not have an answer for them!)

Any assistance gratefully received!
