Participator Research, Standards and
Ethics
Groningen - The
Netherlands
August 21-24 2006
The
Congress
We cordially invite you to the 2006 ALARPM/PAR World
Congress, to
be held in Groningen from 21-24 August 2006. This
much-anticipated
event will bring together people from around the world
to share
their experience and exchange the latest ideas and
information
about action research, action learning and associated
approaches to
inquiry.
The central theme "Standards
and ethics in participatory research"
will provide a key focus for the
Congress. Participants will
explore the wide range of exciting and
informative topics and
issues that have emerged from their practice. In
the process they
will demonstrate the how participatory research
practices provide
the means to improve people's self determination-to
empower people
in their roles as professional practitioners or citizens
in the
diverse social contexts in which they live and work.
Themes and sub-themes
This
Congress offers an exciting opportunity to examine the
following five
main themes:
o Participatory action research and
moral-ethical reflection
o Standards for participatory
research processes
o Participatory action research in
developing countries
o Participatory action research in
professional and
organizational
contexts
o Participatory action research in regional
(and urban)
development: planning, politics and
design
In addition, space will be provided for self-initiated
topics that
do not readily fit into the above categories. We are
particularly
interested in creative proposals that cross subject or
professional
boundaries and provide innovative perspectives about
participative
research and learning
practices.
Call for presentation and
papers
Proposals should be no more than 300 words and should
include a
description of session content and process. Innovative and
creative
presentations designed to stimulate interaction, reflection
and
dialogue are particularly welcome. We encourage you to
think
outside of the PowerPoint box; using debate, drama, music, art
and
interactive demonstrations to demonstrate the possibilities
for
effective action research and learning processes.
Submissions
should be forwarded to [log in to unmask]
