The National Patient Safety Agency is a special health authority that oversees many aspects of patient safety from the design of hospitals to the performance of individual staff. We aim to promote an open and fair culture in the NHS, encouraging all healthcare staff to report things that have gone wrong without undue fear of personal reprimand. Where adverse events occur or problems arise, we initiate preventative methods so that patient safety is continually improved. A key function is to collect and analyse data on patient safety, including incidents reported to the National Reporting and Learning System (NRLS). We have established a Department of Epidemiology and Research that will include an R&D section to create a research literate, evaluative organisation; a Patient Safety Observatory to bring together data and intelligence from a wide range of sources to better understand the field of patient safety; a statistics team and a prioritisation process. Senior Statistician £32,337 - £41,027 p.a. inc. Ref: 908-166 Delivering an effective statistical and analytical service, you will manage a professional team. The role will involve developing and maintaining a system for the surveillance and monitoring of patient safety incidents, as well as testing a range of analytical tools and strategies. Having worked in a high profile field, you should be able to deal with controversial material and have at least three years' experience of leading a multi-disciplinary team. Excellent project management skills are essential, with experience of working closely with a range of individuals and organisations. Senior Analyst £26,793 - £35,747 p.a. inc. Ref: 908-167 Managing a small team of information analysts, you will undertake appropriate analysis and reporting of patient safety data. You will ensure the effective application of analytical techniques, producing internal reports and contributing to public reports as needed. With a relevant numeric or social sciences degree, you must have at least three years' experience of large datasets and have worked with a wide range of data sources, with a good knowledge of both qualitative and quantitative research techniques. Information Analysts £22,437 - £29,037 p.a. inc. Ref: 908-168 You will produce ad hoc and standard reports to monitor trends in adverse patient incidents from the National Reporting and Learning System. Having spent at least two years working with large datasets, you should have experience of a range of analytical techniques, with a degree or equivalent qualification in a numeric or social sciences discipline, as well as experience of working with a wide range of data sources.
