Dear List Bobscar Smelting Mill. SE 0256 9395. Wensleydale. North Yorkshire Apedale Smelting Mill. SE 0307 9409 It is looking more likely that Bobscar Smelting mill is a very old one. Any ideas on the following? There is a very wide area around the mill which is devoid of vegitation, more than around most smelting mills. Could this be due to heavy use during an early period by an ineficient smelting process? Most of the slag has been romoved in similar way to bales sites eg at Hurst. No doubt they were resmelted else where. Does this make it more likely to be an early mill? Thanks Ian Spensley
