We have had a request for a BSL signer in order that a person with hearing difficulties can join our reading group. This would seem an entirely reasonable request but adds a cost of over £2000 per annum to the budget of nothing which is available for supporting the group apart from book fund allocation and staff time. Although we have one member of staff who has basic BSL skills there is no-one on the staff with the full BSL training.
Has anyone had any similar experience in this area? I would welcome ideas on what is a reasonable accommodation in the circumstances. Clearly there is some requirement under the DDA although but the demand on the budget will be onerous and we are looking for alternatives in the short term.
