Information Specialist

One year fixed contract
 
We are looking for an enthusiastic information specialist/librarian to join the New Product Development team at the BMJ Publishing Group. This post will be to work on a number of new BMJ products. These include projects to develop an evidence base for public health and diagnosis for both doctors and the public that will provide the basis of content for an online service.


Role and responsibilities:
This role includes
·        Literature searching according to BMJ processes
       Critical appraisal
·        Data checking
·        Liasing with authors and editors
·        Ordering research papers

Qualifications and Experience:
The ideal candidate will have:
·        a postgraduate qualification in library or information science
·        at least two years experience in a biomedical library or similar environment
·        skilled in searching Medline, Embase, Cochrane and other databases
·        a keen interest in evidence-based medicine
·        be numerate and computer literate
·        familiarity with the medical literature is essential, as critical appraisal is an important aspect of the role

Personal Qualities
The successful applicant will be a good communicator and be able to prioritise and work accurately under pressure in order to keep up with publishing deadlines. Within the new product development department you will be working on evolving products, so flexibility within a team environment is important.
