CALLING ALL SYSTEMATIC REVIEWERS & MODELLERS

Bored with RCTs .... Why not try a systematic review of test evaluations? [or get out more!!]

The Department of Public Health & Epidemiology in association with other parts of the University of Birmingham are pleased to advertise a short course on systematic reviews and health technology assessments of diagnostic and screening tests. This course is also the basis for a special module in our Masters' degree in Evidence Based Healthcare and Health Technology Assessment (leaflet attached). The short course is aimed at people who are familiar with systematic reviews and health technology assessments of effectiveness and want support transferring these skills to test evaluations.

The 6 day course will run from Wednesday 29th March to Wednesday 5th April. The highlights of each day will be:
Day 1. Introduction, including "Normative and psychological aspects of clinical decision-making" by Brendan Delaney & Olga Kostopoulou
Day 2. Understanding evaluations of tests, including CASP workshop 
Day 3. Modifying systematic review steps for summaries of test evaluations, including a practical session on systematic searching
Day 4. Meta-analysis, including practical sessions on use of MetaDisc software led by Javier Zamora
Day 5. Economic evaluation and modeling led by Tracy Roberts and Pelham Barton
Day 6. Lectures on special issues by experts in the field including Jon Deeks and Khalid Khan

As this is the first year of the course, we will be offering it at the very competitive rate of £500 (non commercial) & £1000 (commercial). Numbers are limited and are offered on a strictly first come first served basis.
