Journal of Event Management - An International Journal

Call for Papers

Journal Special Issue ~ Festivals and Events: Looking Beyond Economics

Aim

Increasingly the demands of hosting and managing local, national and
international Festival and Events reach far beyond direct economic
objectives. They extend to other imperatives, including urban
regeneration and reviving and refocusing urban and rural communities.
Identity, image, belief, faith, social value, social capital, social
assimilation, stakeholder participation, pride, equality, marketing,
geography, perception and culture are just some of the additional
elements being associated with the process, practice and purpose of
festival and events. The nature of festival and event management study,
research and - less often - application has thus developed into a
multi-disciplinary academic and practical endeavour.

The aim of this special issue is to present new perspectives - from
around the world - on current theoretical and applied examples of
research and analysis which go beyond economic depictions of festivals
and events. Topics may include - but are not be restricted to:

Policy and Politics

* The role of government in Festivals and Event - policy,
planning, management

* Social dimensions of festivals and events - youth, education,
community and culture, social inclusion and access

* Cultural dimensions of festivals and event - locally,
nationally, globally

* Arts and cultural development through festivals and events

Evaluation and Issues

* Festival and Events triple bottom line evaluation

* Festivals/ Events and Destination Image and Marketing

*         Festival/ Event attribute analysis

*         Festivals/ Events and technology

*         Festival/Event and tourism interface

*         Events and Sport development

*         Festival/Event Case Examples
