The difference is that ED performed US is in its infancy, many centres maybe having no US lead from ED. Radiologists do not perform echo which is why they don't mentor.

There is nothing to say that radiologists have to be a mentor, but one should be mentored by one with the appropriate skills whether they are radiologists or ED physicians. I want to develop US skills. As I am the most experienced in the department, I will have to go outside to expand my scope of practice. Whether that is an ultrasonographer, radiologists I do not mind as long as they are prepared to pass on knowledge.
