Image Transfer - evaluating the ethics of art sponsorsDear AACORNERs,

Recently, I had a problem with a virus or a hacker.
More than two years of my in-box e-mails disappeared.
I would be most grateful
if you could help me recover your e-mails
sent from December 2003 until January 2006.
Would you be kind enough to send them again?

Sincerely,
Fernando Pereira Alves

Subject: Image Transfer - evaluating the ethics of art sponsors

  Hello Aacorners

I thought this new workshop, which is on right now in Umea, Sweden, may be of interest to the Aacorn group.

  All the best

          Image Transfer

    3 day workshop on 10 - 12 Jan
with Carey Young, artist, and Deborah Doane, campaigner, writer and researcher
launched at the Academy of Fine Arts, Umeå University, Sweden

'Image Transfer' is a new workshop focussing on the issues for artists and art institutions in accepting corporate sponsorship and patronage. What exactly are companies 'buying' when they sponsor an artist or an exhibition? What 'image' do artists, and the arts in general, transfer on to sponsors? What might be the ethical issues for an artist in selling their work to corporate collections? How might an artist decide whether to participate in an exhibition which is sponsored by a company with a track record of social or environmental destruction? How can artists find and evaluate the often-hidden 'background' information on a company's ethics and operations?

This unique workshop is led by artist Carey Young and Deborah Doane, a leading expert in the field of corporate accountability. It focuses on developing knowledge, research and analytical skills, and has been designed for fine artists, art students, exhibition curators and those working in the arts.
