I have received this from Susan Crockford for distribution to Zooarch:

Dear colleagues,

After years of fielding requests for a “non-specialist” version of my
ground-breaking Ph.D. research, I’m proud to announce that the book I’ve been
working on is finally available.

Rhythms of Life: Thyroid Hormone and the Origin of Species

How did wolves become dogs, dodos loose flight and Homo become dwarfed? Rhythms
of Life unveils, in simple language, Susan Crockford’s revolutionary new
concept of how thyroid hormone drives evolutionary change (including
domestication) and controls your health. From resolving the origins of dogs
(and the dwarfing of Homo floresiensis) to clarifying the primary cause of
depression, this innovative approach makes evolution personal. Regardless of
your background, this provocative book is sure to change the way you look at
life.

Using familiar and fascinating examples, Rhythms of Life explains how animals
could have transformed from one species to another via a simple hormonal
mechanism and its affects on critical genes. It also explains how this process
continues to affect our daily lives, through its impact on the growth of our
children and our health as adults. This testable scientific theory takes
Darwin’s fundamental ideas on evolution to a whole new level, sort of a “Guns,
Germs and Steel” for evolutionary biology.

Some biographical notes: I’m a professional evolutionary biologist (B.Sc.,
Zoology; Ph.D., Interdisciplinary Studies) with a specialty in skeletal
taxonomy and vertebrate evolution. I’ve spent 15 years studying the history and
evolution of dogs and have 30 years experience in archaeozoology and forensic
zoology. I currently hold an adjunct faculty position at the University of
Victoria, where I teach a course on animal domestication. I also work full time
for a private company that offers identification of animal skeletal remains to
scientific researchers around the world (www.pacificid.com), a unique firm I
helped found in 1988 (some of my publications are listed on the Pacific ID
website).
