The Inter-Congress meeting of the World Archaeology Congress planned
in Kingston, Jamaica (20-27 May, 2007) advertised a theme entitled
“Archaeology of the Environment and Cultural Landscapes”. I would
like to encourage anyone who has means or at least hopes to attend the
meeting to contribute to this or any other theme as listed at the conference
website (http://www.asjam.com). I am proposing a session entitled
“Scales and feathers: an environmental/cultural perspective” in order
to demonstrate the many ways faunal assemblages can contribute to
archaeology beyond the proverbial “laundry lists” of bone remains.
Discussions between archaeologists, historians and archaeozoologists
need to be fostered on global fora. Those interested in this topic/session
should visit the website of the Archaeological Society of Jamaica referred
to above and/or contact me directly.
