Dear Jennie,

Rather than being bones, these specimens look like seeds and sound like seeds from your description.  I suggest you show them to a local archaeobotanist who is familiar with the flora of NE Colorado.

Greetings all,

I have attached a photo of a mystery specimen. Can somebody please help
me identify these little buggers. I have run across them before and
simply have no idea what they are. They may be quite obvious to some or
many of you (I hope). These are from a faunal assemblage (mainly
comprised of bison remains) from NE Colorado, USA. They are about 1.5 mm
thick and 3.7 mm in diameter. There is a little spur on the outer edge
and a rough texture on the upper and lower surfaces. They appear
mineralized. I greatly appreciate any and all help.

Thanks,
Jennie
