You should think about a paper for the dogs session if you are not already! The deposit sounds fantastic. Also I probably have some stuff on Roman ritual uses of dogs if you want, but nothing specifically about ritual shafts. Fay -----Original Message----- From: Analysis of animal remains from archaeological sites [mailto:[log in to unmask]]On Behalf Of Jessica Grimm Sent: 10 March 2006 09:29 To: [log in to unmask] Subject: [ZOOARCH] Neonate and foetal dog remains Dear all, I would like to know if there is any literature on foetal and/or neonate dog remains (other than Habermehl 1975) as I have another set of seven or eight dogs from the ritual shaft site. Or does anyone have a foetal or neonate dog of known age and breed of which GL of the long bones can be taken. From the site I have at least four different types of dogs with heights at the withers of about 24, 33, 45 and 51 cm. This does not seem to reflect sexual dimorphism as I have males in all groups (I have over 30 nearly complete dogs now). As to be expected, the different types are reflected in the neonate and/or foetal remains as well. Your help with this is very much appreciated!
