Winter Conference
2007: UK & European Quality &
Training Issues in Postgraduate
Education
13th
February 2007
Hilton,
York
The UKCGE’s Annual Winter Conference will host the National
Launch of the ‘QAA Final Report on the
Special Review of RDPs’ followed by an opportunity for discussion with the
principal authors, Gill Clarke and Julian Ellis. This will follow QAA Director
Dr Peter Williams’ Keynote on ‘Quality & Training Issues in Postgraduate
Education’.
Three parallel streams will then explore ‘Quality and PGR’, ‘Quality and PGT’ and broader ‘Policy Issues’
relating to European and other developments. The recurrent theme of
sustainability of skills training both in PGR and PGT, the role of enterprise
and innovation skills training, the impact of European developments on the
UK Masters degree and the PhD, plus
the role of Graduate Schools and the e-management of PGR students will form the
focus of several interactive debates. Professor Chris Park’s review of the early
outputs from the ‘National PG Research
Experience Survey’ will close the meeting.
The
cost of the Winter Conference is £160 for UKCGE members and £195 for
non-members
Places are limited and available on a
first-come-first-served basis.
Bologna Discussion Forum: Proposals for
Doctoral Programmes in Europe after the Brussels/Nice
Seminars
22nd January
2007
Woburn House, UUK,
London
This first UKCGE Bologna Discussion Forum will focus on the European
debate on Doctoral Programmes under Bologna and
the potential impact on HEI policies and practice in the UK. Concise,
documented Briefings on the EUA Seminars in Brussels (October) and Nice
(December, 2006) will be presented by two active participants, clarifying the
relevance to UK Research plc of the key issues likely to impact on UK doctoral
programmes under Bologna.
A short review of the UK’s strategic position on Doctoral Programmes in
the Bologna
context will stimulate discussion on the key issues for UK HEIs and their
potential resolution. Since the recommendations from
Brussels/Nice will feed directly into the London Ministerial Meeting on Doctoral
Programmes (3rd cycle) in June, 2007 and the ensuing London
Communiqué, the
UKCGE Bologna Discussion Forum represents an excellent opportunity to update on
the issues and input to the debate.
The
cost of the discussion forum is £65 per
delegate
Places are limited and available on a
first-come-first-served basis.
