Residential Workshop - Professional Doctorates and the Skills Training Agenda
This is your final opportunity to book for the UKCGE Residential Workshop for Graduate Deans, Administrators and Research Supervisors - Professional Doctorates and the Skills Training Agenda.

The workshop, taking place at Rutland Square Hotel, Nottingham on 15th & 16th November, will focus on the key QA issues relating to Professional Doctorates in Business, Medical Sciences and Education. The design, development and delivery of these rapidly expanding doctoral pathways will be discussed in Syndicated Workshop format based on small facilitated groups and in plenary sessions.

Both for Professional Doctorates and for the regular doctorate, training needs analysis and the challenge of designing and delivering generic and transferable skills training will also be considered – in the context of the QAA / Research Councils’ skills agenda. Best practice and effective solutions will be shared in small group discussions. The sustainability of PGRS skills training will be reviewed with reference to the impact of Roberts funding and post-Roberts funding policy on the sector.

The cost of the workshop is £300 for UKCGE members & £360 for non-members. This includes accommodation, meals and refreshments.

Day delegate rates* are also available:   £80 members (£100 non-members) for delegates wishing to attend only on 15th November.
£185 members (£225 non-members) for delegates wishing to attend only on 16th November.
* Day delegate rates include meals & refreshments (no accommodation).

Management & Supervision of International Postgraduate Students

Taking place at the Royal Society, Edinburgh on 5th December, the Management & Supervision of International Postgraduate Students workshop is aimed at academic staff who supervise international research students, directors of postgraduate studies with responsibility for overseas research students, and staff development officers who "train" supervisors of international research students.  The objective is to enable participants to identify the key and unique issues for supervisors when working with international research students, and to develop strategies for managing these issues.

Participants will be provided with a summary of what the evidence of research on the subject can teach us, and will be encouraged, through guided group discussions, to consider where supervisors fit within the structure for meeting the needs of international research students within their own HEI. They will also explore possible and appropriate supervisor responses to the challenges faced by international research students.

The cost of the workshop is £145 for UKCGE members & £185 for non-members. This includes lunch and refreshments.
