Dear all, Please note that due to requests, the following session deadline has been extended to Friday February 24th. ----------------------------------------------- RGS - IBG Annual International Conference 2006 30 August - 1 September 2006 London ----------------------------------------------- Dear all, Please find details below of a call for papers on Social Simulation and Modelling Complexity. PLEASE NOTE: This replaces two other sessions, (a) Social Simulation and (b) Progress in spatial modelling, simulation and analysis (or, what to do when things get complex)) at the RGS. --------------- Call for Papers --------------- Interest in social simulation and spatial modelling has been growing rapidly in the last decade. The potential for researchers to model and understand complex systems and datasets is now unparalleled with increases in computing power, data capture and storage. Despite this interest, there remains little published material on the challenges of making statistical or visual sense of complex data sets or advice on how best to both analyse and model dynamic, complex systems. This session aims to bring together researchers to report on progress in social simulation, spatial modelling and analysis, and modelling complexity. Papers may include: * Tools for modelling social simulation. * Artificial social systems. * Modelling complexity in social simulations. * Understanding complex data visually and statistically. * How space and scale are theorised and conceptualised in different models and techniques. * Verification and testing. * Applications and research issues for e-science and e-social science, for example the four essential research issues identified by Martin (2005): automated data mining; visualisation of spatial data uncertainty; incorporation of an explicit spatial dimension into simulation modelling; and neighbourhood classifications). * Use of Geographically Weighted Regression (GWR), multi-level modelling or other spatial analytical techniques for investigating spatial structures and patterning. Full submission guidelines can be found at: http://www.rgs.org/AC2006 --------------- Important Dates --------------- Deadline for abstracts: 24 February 2006 Notification of Acceptance: 1 April 2006 Early Registration: 5 May 2006 For any questions related to this session, please contact either of the conveners mentioned below.
