Fellowship in the area of Dissemination, Communication and Outreach,
Newsletter editor

The EGEE-II project (Enabling Grids for E-SciencE, www.eu-egee.org) is a 
major international Grid computing project co-funded by the European Union.

CERN is the coordinator of this project, which involves more than 90 
institutes in 32 countries around the globe, and also leads the 
Dissemination, Outreach and Communication activity (NA2). Recently, CERN and 
Open Science Grid (OSG) in the USA, another major Grid project, began 
producing a joint, international electronic newsletter, based on the 
successful Science Grid This Week model which has been in operation for 18 
months. The new newsletter, international Science Grid This Week (iSGTW for 
short, see www.isgtw.org), will be a common e-newsletter to increase 
awareness of the achievements of scientific Grids, aimed at scientists, Grid 
developers and operators, policy makers and opinion leaders, industry and 
the press. It has a circulation of over 2000 by email.

To support this activity, CERN is looking for an editor who will also write 
features for the weekly newsletter, sourcing articles, overseeing the layout 
and producing the newsletter on a weekly basis.

This position would be for 12 months, starting in April 2007. It will be 
co-funded by EGEE and OSG and will involve frequent travel to the United 
States, as well as to major Grid events and activities in Europe.

Qualification Requirements
Education: University degree or equivalent in science, science communication 
or other disciplines relevant to the position.

Experience and Knowledge:
•	Between three and ten years’ relevant professional communication 
experience in a scientific area;
•	experience of editing publications (electronic publications a bonus);
•	excellent written, communication, and organisational skills;
•	very good knowledge in English; basic knowledge of French of an 
undertaking to acquire it rapidly
