Schools Science and Engineering Clubs Project Leader (the BA)
Salary : £30,000 - £33,000 plus benefits

Following the 2006 Budget the Chancellor of the Exchequer announced the setting up of 250 science and engineering clubs in schools in order to help address the shortage of young people opting for the science subjects at school. This project, funded by DFES, is designed to set up those clubs and help them to run - and this is your chance to be part of it.

The Science and Engineering Clubs project is an exciting 2 year project funded by DfES to support 250 Science and Engineering Clubs and develop a stimulating and engaging programme of science activities for Key Stage 3 pupils with interest and potential in science. The project is dedicated to enriching and extending the KS3 science curriculum and committed to raising standards and making a difference. The clubs will build on existing good practice and experience in extra-curricular science enrichment and will have a strong underpinning in all science subjects. The clubs will focus on engaging the young people by demonstrating the relevance and excitement of those subjects as they are practiced in the world of work. Ultimately, the clubs will aim to help pupils develop a positive attitude towards studying science and engineering, increase attainment and progression and stimulate the sharing of good teaching and learning practice.

The clubs are to be supported by a consortium managed by SETNET with members including Ecsite-uk (the network of science centres and museums), the Science Learning Centres and the BA (British Association for the Advancement of Science), the Association for Science Education and the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust.

The BA is looking for a Project Leader to co-ordinate the support for these science and engineering clubs.
