Hi Bronwen,

Thanks ever so much for the tip – I must say I’m amazed at how many science composers there are out there so it is great to have a recommendation like this. I don’t suppose you have a copy cd of the work you could send or a link? Also I would be interested to learn what the specific theme was – we are looking to do something around cardiovascular disease, so would be helpful to have a composer who was either scientist or open to new ideas!

Thanks again!!

Jenny

I used a composer called Gareth Glyn for a 'science' composition project I ran with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales in 2002, where we explored sound and specifically how instruments work.  He was absolutely fantastic at writing for full orchestral setup combined with small concertante groups throughout our 50min concert.

His contact details are: [log in to unmask]

If you want any more information on our project just let me know.

Good luck!

Dear psci-commers,

I have an unusual request to put to you....

I wish to find a composer would be interested in a very exciting scientific commission! If anyone knows of a science communicator who is also a highly skilled composer capable of penning a 20-30 minute opera (possibly for a few principles, small choir and instrumental accompaniment of sorts) around an extremely medical theme please pass my details onto them. Alternatively if you know of any non science composer who would be interested please still do get in touch! More details available off list. This project is in early stages - so at this point I am trying to establish timescales and budgets.

Any help much appreciated!

Thanks!!
