Hi Rachel, Something that might be worth considering is the role of Widening Participation and schools liaison officers in science faculties/departments. I work mainly with schools, but would still term what I do as science communication as it does not have a recruitment bias and is generally based on enthusing young people about science rather than educating them on specific topics.
