THE INSTITUTE OF CANCER RESEARCH
(University of London)

Sutton, Surrey

NEW MEDIA DEVELOPMENT

The Institute of Cancer Research (a College of the University of London) is
a world-class cancer research organisation with HEFCE RAE ratings of
international excellence across all of its research programmes. In
partnership with The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, we form the
largest comprehensive cancer centre in Europe, dedicated to research that
extends from epidemiology, genetics and molecular biology, through drug
discovery and development, to cancer diagnosis and patient treatment. This
makes us uniquely placed to work towards our vision that people may live
their lives free from the fear of cancer as a life threatening disease.

The Interactive Education Unit (www.ieu.icr.ac.uk) develops Web- and CD ROM-
based resources for students, scientists, healthcare professionals and
patients. We are seeking someone to support the Acting Head on a temporary
basis in developing and running the IEU at The Institute, with an emphasis
on researching and writing content for our projects.

The role will be offered as a temporary position of six months, at either
the New Media Development Researcher (NMDR) or more senior New Media
Development Officer (NMDO) level, determined by your skills and relevant
experience.

Applicants must hold a degree in a biological science, possess excellent
research, writing and editing skills and be familiar with the use of
interactive media, ideally in a teaching and learning context. Meticulous
attention to detail, strong proof-reading skills and the ability to extract
and summarise information from a variety of sources are essential.

For appointment at the New Media Development Officer level applicants must
have at least one year’s writing experience, ideally in a medical /
scientific communications environment.

Offered on a short-term basis initially, the position would suit someone
wishing to enter or gain further experience in the science communication
field. At the NMDR level the salary will be in the range £19,627 p.a. to
£22,832 p.a. inclusive. The salary for the NMDO position will be in the
region of £23,900 p.a. inclusive.
