PhD student project on conducting supramolecular wires for organic (nano)electronics

The project is funded by the European Union and involves collaboration between groups in Delft, London, Mons, Strasbourg, Oxford, Milan, Lodz, San Sebastian, Catania, Scriba Nanotecnologies Srl (Italy) and BASF AG (Germany).

The overall goal is the generation of new knowledge underpinning the exploitation of supramolecular wires (namely conjugated polyrotaxanes) in the fabrication and investigation of prototypical systems, both at the level of single-molecule devices, and of large-area polymer applications (LEDs, solar cells, ultrafast photonic switches)
.

In the Optoelectronic Materials Section in Delft (The Netherlands) we seek a PhD student to perform experimental studies on the motion and properties of charge carriers and excitons. Particular attention will be paid to the mobility of charges along isolated molecular wires. The dynamics of charges and excitons will be studied using high-energy electron and laser pulses in combination with optical and microwave or terahertz conductivity measurements. The candidate will be given the opportunitiy to conduct part of the research at the other groups involved in this international collaborative project as well as to participate in international meetings and training events.
Requirements
The candidate to be appointed should have a University Grade with a relevant background in chemistry or physics.

Conditions of employment
This position has a temporary employment basis of 4 years (48 months). The estimated starting salary per month for the PhD is ¤ 1933 ,- per month gross,  and increases ¤ 2472,- per month gross in the fourth year. Benefits and other employment conditions are according to the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities.
