PhD student or post-doc for ultrafast laser
spectroscopy
PhD student (4
years) or post-doc (2-3 years) position available in the Section
Optoelectronic Materials at Delft University of Technology in The
Netherlands.
Topic: ultra
fast laser spectroscopy on new materials for solar cells and
LEDs
Job
description
The project
involves studies of the nature and ultrafast dynamics of excited
states (excitons) and charge carriers in materials for application in
the next generation solar cells or light-emitting diodes. Materials of
interest include conjugated polymers, inorganic nanoparticles and
nanostructured composites. Excitons and charge carriers will be
produced by pulsed irradiation of the material with laser or
high-energy electron pulses with a duration in the femto- to
picosecond time-domain. The dynamics of these transient species will
be probed by femtosecond optical pulses and terahertz conductivity
measurements. Processes to be studied include (non)radiative decay of
excitons in competition with exciton dissociation into free charge
carriers, exciton-exciton annihilation, charge carrier mobility and
kinetics of charge recombination.
The knowledge to be obtained will contribute to the development of the
next generation opto-electronic devices including solar cells and
LEDs.
Requirements
The candidate
should have a doctorate and a relevant background in chemistry or
physics. Specific experimental experience with pulsed femtosecond
laser systems is desirable, however, not required.
