Dear all, I know a few historians of science have interest in visual art and science, and historical/sociological thinking about it : it is the reason why I forward the following contest, which might be of interest to some of you. Please do contact me or Paul Costey to get the .pdf files rejected by the Mersenne list (poster, application form, rules). With kind wishes, Christelle Rabier _________________________________ CAK/CRHST Cité des Sciences 30, av. In 2004, a handful of students developed the project to question the use and status of images in sociological thinking as well as to contribute to sociological knowledge as far as its objects and methods are concerned. The discussion needs to continue this year and will benefit from new technical and conceptual instruments. * * *"Fringe(s)"will be the general guideline of this second edition –*"Fringe(s)" is the best translation of the french word "Marge(s))*. *It will help to question the key areas of sociological analysis and examine sociology and its limits when confronted to photography, which praxis is closely-related to that of sociology. No matter how "fringe(s)"is traditionally treated in sociology, the candidates are free to explore new dimensions. The jury is composed of researchers in social sciences deeply interested in photography as well as of professional photographers. For the first edition, the jury was chaired by the two sociologists, Howard Becker and Bruno Latour. The award-winning photographs will be first exposed in the Ecole Normale Supérieure Lettres et Sciences Humaines in Lyon and will then move to other cities across France. An online exhibition is also scheduled. In continuity to the first edition, the format is imposed; a series of 3 to 5 photos along with a text developing a sociological reflection (800 signs). *Each projet must be sent before september 30th to the following address: * * * *Revue Tracés* *15 Parvis René Descartes* *BP 7000* *69 342 Lyon Cedex 07* France Website: http://www.ens-lsh.fr/assoc/traces E-mail address: [log in to unmask]
