FUTURE DIRECTIONS IN BIOLOGY STUDIES
Indiana University, July 26-30,
2006
We invite you to join us for the 2006 Future Directions in Biology
Studies (F-DIBS) graduate training workshop, July 26-30 at Indiana
University in Bloomington.
F-DIBS is a four-day intensive training workshop for graduate students,
advanced undergraduates, post-docs, and young faculty interested in the
history, philosophy, and social studies of biology. Senior faculty are also
invited to come.
The workshop will focus on the problems and prospects of
cross-disciplinary collaboration. Eleven scholars of distinction will be
addressing the following questions in their plenary talks: What is the future
of biology studies? What are the benefits and challenges of interdisciplinary
collaboration? Other faculty attendees will also participate in hands-on
roundtable discussions addressing training issues, such as how to write a
paper for submission to a journal, strategies for navigating the job market,
and how to obtain funding for research in biology studies. Small group
break-out sessions will provide students the opportunity to discuss focused
research topics and case studies from multi-disciplinary perspectives. Each
evening, "Happy Office Hours" will provide younger scholars the opportunity to
meet each other and more senior scholars in area pubs and coffee
shops.
The 2006 F-DIBS plenary speakers are:
* Garland Allen (History;
Washington University, St. Louis)
