Subject: codebreaking machine

Bank of Enigma machine simulators

If some of you missed this morning's 'Today' programme (BBC Radio
4), you may like to know that it contained a significant item on
history of technology:

John Harper and his team have completed their reconstruction of a WW2
Bombe (the electromechanical machine used to break Enigma code at
Bletchley Park).

The public can go along to see (and hear) the thing in operation
at Bletchley Park from 23 September.

This is a great example of something that is a worthwhile
historical project (highly informative about the original design and
manufacturing processes) and will do a grand job of communicating
something important to the general public (perhaps only that a lot of
effort must have been put into this, but perhaps also some insight
into what it means that a task can be done by a machine).
