As part of its continuing investment in the History of Medicine, Oxford
Brookes University and the School of Arts and Humanities, in partnership
with Hefce (Higher Education Funding Council for England), seek to appoint
two RCUK (Research Councils, United Kingdom) fellows in twentieth-century
medical history. The Fellowships are permanent appointments in the History
of Medicine.

RCUK Fellow: Twentieth Century biomedicine and-or pharmaceuticals

The successful candidate will have research and publication experience and
future plans in the history of twentieth century biomedicine and-or
pharmaceuticals. The Department may prefer candidates with interests in the
European dimension of these areas or those who undertake comparative work
between Britain and Europe. He or she should ideally have broader interests
in the social history of medicine and in the wider socio-economic or
cultural history of Europe. The successful candidate will be a core member
of the Centre for Health, Medicine and Society and part of the History of
Medicine research cluster in the wider History Department. The successful
candidate will either have, or be on track to obtain, an international
publications profile and will be able to demonstrate both a record of and
considerable potential for obtaining external grants. The Department may
give preference to those candidates who can be submitted to the RAE in 2007
at a level commensurate with obtaining top research gradings.

RCUK Fellow: Twentieth Century Central or Eastern European bio-medicine

The successful candidate will have research and publication experience and
future plans in the history of twentieth century biomedicine (broadly
defined to include eugenics and the medical dynamics of fascism) in Central
and-or Eastern Europe. He or she should ideally have broader interests in
the social history of medicine and in the wider history of Central or
Eastern Europe. The successful candidate will be a core member of the Centre
for Health, Medicine and Society and part of the History of Medicine
research cluster in the wider History Department. The successful candidate
will either have, or be on track to obtain, an international publications
profile and will be able to demonstrate both a record of and considerable
potential for obtaining external grants. The Department may give preference
to those candidates who can be submitted to the RAE in 2007 at a level
commensurate with obtaining top research gradings.
