Course Outline
This course aims to bring the user up to date with the latest software for 
managing different reference types beyond bibliographic sources. Such 
references could be to image files or full text items from an OpenURL 
source. The course will consider the different types of packages available 
including Open Source software, image retrieval software and additional 
software for dealing with other types of reference data. The course aims 
to be practical in nature so please book early to avoid disappointment.

The programme will cover:
* the problems and issues in bibliographic referencing
* an update on new features found in reference software packages
* capturing images : products and positions outlined
* text mining for the novice
* social bookmarking and what it means for you
* open URL resolvers and their usefulness for managing references
* linking beyond the bibliographic details

There will also be time for hands on.

Course Presenter: Tracy Kent
Tracy Kent is an experienced, subject librarian who has over twelve years 
of experience in the Information Profession. She has provided on-going 
reference support for academics at the University of Birmingham and for 
the wider information profession through the UK eInformation Group. She 
has also written a Quick guide to bibliographic software [isbn : 
1870254120] and edits a bi-monthly column on reference software in  
UKeiG's e-journal eLucidate. Tracy also runs her own reference software 
training company, Trrak.
