As you may know, AACR2 is currently being revised as RDA. While everyone is welcome to make individual responses, the UK Bibliographic Standards Committee (BSC) of the CILIP Rare Books and Special Collections Group is co-ordinating a group response pertaining to rare books. Attached is a draft response from the BSC. If you have any comments on it, please let me know (email: [log in to unmask]) by the end of this week. We should be delighted to hear from the wider rare book cataloguing community in Great Britain. Please remember that RDA is a set of general cataloguing rules intended to cover a wide range of book and non-book material. The BSC remit is only to comment on things that apply to early printed books (either exclusively, or in addition to modern books), without trying to skew the cataloguing of modern materials. Individual responses to the BL / CILIP committee may of course relate to other areas. The draft of the areas of RDA commented on is available at: http://www.collectionscanada.ca/jsc/rdadraftpt1.html Karen Attar Dr Karen Attar Rare Books Librarian Senate House Library University of London Senate House Malet Street London WC1E 7HU Tel. 020 7862 8472
