If interested, please reply directly to Mr. Edwards (address and phone
number below) or to Ursula Sims-Williams ([log in to unmask]).

This is a message from Ursula Sims-Williams of the British Library who was
recently was contacted by Arthur Edwards who is in possession of a
duplicate set of his mother's family archive.

Arthur Edwards' parents were in Hamadan between 1911 and 1924,
during which period his mother (Clara Carey Edwards nee Carey Case from a
well to do New England family) wrote weekly informative letters home to
her family in the States. They were running a world wide carpets
manufacture/export business. During the war they were forced to leave
Hamadan for a period while it was occupied by a pro-German local ruler,
but as soon as the Russians entered the scene they returned safely
(Apparently this whole episode is hardly known about and therefore
particularly interesting).

The original archive has been deposited at Bryn Mawr College, and
Arthur Edwards retained photocopies of the whole collection, hoping to
write a book about it. The copies are therefore well ordered and in a
usable format. Mr.Edwards however feels he is too old to do the work now,
but would like to give the archive to someone/some institution where it
could be useful. The archive takes up the equivalent space of a 3 drawer
steel filing cabinet.

There is a description of the originals at:
