BACKGROUND:

The Library and Information Research Group (LIRG) is a special interest
group of CILIP. Its mission is to raise awareness of research into
library and information work by:

Influencing professional policy and practice so as to embed research as
a vital activity

Promoting the dissemination of sound research methodology and results

Assisting in the development of emerging researchers

Enabling networking between researchers

Recently CILIP Council approved a policy document drawn up by LIRG on
the need for an evidence-based, research-led profession. This seminar is
the first in a series covering the UK which attempts to explain this
policy and to provide advice on how to conduct research.
