UNDERSTANDING COMPANY ACCOUNTS
Date: 13-14 march

Starting with simple examples of financial reporting, the main financial
statements are introduced. Their purpose is explained and some of the fog of
accounting jargon cleared away. Having gained an understanding of what the
financial statements mean, delegates practice using a basic toolkit for the
interpretation of financial data. The basic rules and standards governing
the preparation of published financial information are also covered.

outcomes: 
* an understanding of the purpose and meaning of the main financial
statements 
* the ability to interpret financial data using a basic toolkit of analysis
techniques 
* identify the standards which are followed in the preparation of accounts 
* an awareness of the subjectivity of much financial information

INTRODUCTION TO THE EUROPEAN UNION

Introduction to the European Union is a one day course which will introduce
to you the European Union and the key information sources on the web for
following its activities. This will include legislation and other
policy-making information, keeping up-to-date, policy information, contact
information and bibliographical sources. Hands-on time will be allocated to
allow you to examine the sources demonstrated. While primarily free access
websites will be featured there will also be a round-up of the commercial
products available in this area. 

outcomes:
* understand the function of each of the EU Institutions, the policy making
process, legislative acts, which policies are dealt with at an EU level and
what role the Member States play in EU policy making 
* be able to trace EU law and track legislative proposals and other
initiatives in the policy making process 
* be able to find information on EU policies and people 
* be able to keep up to date with what is happening in the EU
