Tuesday 8 August is the date for CILIP in London's Summer Trip.

This year's excursion takes us to the seaside.

There has been much talk recently of using libraries for local
regeneration and to combat social exclusion. Bournemouth has done just
that by building its new Central Library in what had been a run-down area.
The project was an innovative Public Finance Initiative which won the
Prime Minister's Better Public Building Award. And introduced a new level
of IT to the town.

Come with us and explore Bournemouth Library. There'll also be a chance to
visit the intriguing Russell-Cotes Art Gallery and Museum, soak in the
atmosphere and enjoy suitable refreshments.

This behind-the-scenes visit will be an excellent chance for anyone
preparing themselves for CILIP Chartership, Revalidation or Certification
to see an exciting new library which was developed as part of a social
policy initiative. The Government has recommended it as a model to be used
elsewhere.

There is no charge for this visit. If you would like to come, please send
your details by 31 July to Phillip Powell:
