I remember that they were using students to help other students at the University of Technology Sydney library, when I visited in 2004. There was an article about it (with photo) in their newsletter as well, but I can't immediately find it on the site (http://www.lib.uts.edu.au/). As I remember it, the students mostly acted as people who were actively "around" in the library, in particular to help students who were using library computers etc. The students were paid, and given brightly coloured jackets (to stand out), and it seemed to work well. I think there was a particular focus on recruiting international students, which had various benefits in terms of getting to know the needs of international students better, as well as giving good support to other international students. (You'll see on the website that the library also has some Chinese webpages and an "international librarian") Sheila --------------------- Sheila Webber, Senior Lecturer, Department of Information Studies, University of Sheffield, Regent Court, 211 Portobello Street , Sheffield S1 4DP, UK.
