As someone fairly new to your list (only 2ish years in the Library world), and a follower of the Campaign for Plain English, could I please ask that if people must talk in acronyms and synonyms, could you please put full titles in as well to explain what you are talking about? I'm sure this will benefit others as well as myself. An example from a student recently ' What does DOH stand for?' Many people have been expressing concern at what will happen to INFORMS when the project funding runs out, and at long last we have some news to report. Under the terms of the project, Huddersfield will host the database until July 2006. The view of the INFORMS steering group was that after July 2006 INFORMS should be adopted as a national resource. I am very pleased to say that the Resource Discovery Network has recently agreed in principle to take on INFORMS. The RDN through MIMAS has the technical infrastructure to support the INFORMS service, as well as national expertise in information skills through its Virtual Training Suite. It also spans both FE and HE. Discussions are now underway with the JISC on funding for a one year integration project (which will include things like developing a quality kite marked standard, improving the software, setting up a help desk service). I would be most grateful if you would pass this email on to colleagues in your service who are working with INFORMS. Thank you.
