Dear Colleagues

Those of who have seen Pat Stearman’s e-mail comparing Unity UK unfavourably with Talis Source may also have seen Katie Anstock’s posting to the TCR digest.  This shows quite clearly that an extensive programme of work is well under way to load fresh contributions from Unity UK subscribers, with many more in the pipeline.  This work is now so advanced that the interim solution, based on the copy of the UnityWeb database supplied by Talis at the time of the migration to Unity UK, will be switched off in the next few days.

This is not the place to discuss the many shortcomings of the dataset which Talis released at the conclusion of their contract with The Combined Regions.  I am confident however that the new Unity UK, with a full load of data from the British Library, and incorporating all the data from Link UK members, will offer a comprehensive resource to support ILL across the UK in the years to come.

With best wishes

Robert Gent

Vice Chair, The Combined Regions
