Yes we have the same problem. The Athens route to Metapress articles is tortuous and very confusing to our users. I was hoping the recent change advertised by T&F on Wednesday had been done to solve this problem, but it hasn't. These are the instructions we've had to put on our password help page: http://www.inf.aber.ac.uk/academicliaison/guides/metappw.asp 3.. use the new AthensDA system. Please note that this new system replaces the Classic Athens username/password that you may already use. NOTE: Access using Athens is not straightforward; please read ALL the following instructions to obtain the full text of the article: We recommend that you use our AthensDA login route first before selecting the journal on JoEy. Look for this link which is at the top of every ElecInfo and JoEy page: 'Login here to use any Athens UWA resources' Login with your UWA login and password. For details about Athens, see our Info page: http://www.inf.aber.ac.uk/academicliaison/elecinfo.asp#Athens Once you have successfully completed this login, go to JoEy and find the journal you require. Select the Metapress link and select the article you require. The abstract will be displayed. Scroll down on the right hand side to 'Log in'. This takes you to a page with username and password boxes. Ignore these boxes and click on the 'login via athens' just above these boxes. This should then bring you back to the abstract but on the right hand side should be displayed a large box headed 'full text access'. Choose PDF, 'Open entire document' and this should load Adobe Reader and display the full article. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------- So, even though they've used the athensDA login on our pages, they still have to go through a complicated procedure to get the full text. I have informed Greg Neal of this. Here at MMU we're experiencing a peculiar problem with off-campus use of the individual URLs for MetaPress and Taylor & Francis e-journals. Yes, they do work. Our users are taken to the appropriate e-journal website. But they aren't offered a chance to login at this stage ... and they are confused as the word "Logout" appears near the top of the screen. This implies that they are logged in. There is no visible option at this stage to link to Athens authentication or any other form of login. Of course, because they aren't logged in, they aren't able to access the full-text content of journals to which, as MMU users, they are entitled. We've found a work-around which is to ask them click on "Logout" and then, on the next screen, click on the option to start a new session. At this stage, they are offered the chance to login with Athens authentication ... We've been in touch with Greg Neal of Ebsco and have suggested that it would help to have an option to login via Athens on the initial screen ... and to make it clear just what the "Logout" button means. IE: that it doesn't mean that you're actually logged in. Greg has very kindly forwarded our request to the development team, so we're hoping that there will be changes. Are any other institutions experiencing the same problem? Has anyone found a better solution than we have? And, if you are having the same problem, would you be willing to contact Greg at [log in to unmask] and indicate that you, too, would like the development team to reduce the confusion? I've let Greg know that I'm posting this message, so he will be expecting requests. Many thanks!
