Strategic Journals Finance will be of importance to middle and senior
publishing managers, who meet a multiplicity of financial problems in
managing a journals portfolio. The aim of the course is to introduce finance
and accounting problems that managers face at senior level, and to enable
them to feel at ease working with finance and accounting experts.

Programme:
Portfolio risk management: including topics such as attitude to risk,
balancing society versus proprietary and new versus mature journals,
currency exposure.

Decision making: including project appraisal, net present value, investment
decisions, product & company valuation.

Understanding the competitive environment: including Porter's Five Forces,
pricing policy, strategic issues.

Electronic business models: including print versus electronic, e-only,
pay-per-view, licensing.

Who should attend?
This is a Level 2 course aimed at experienced journal publishing managers,
publishing editors and publishers responsible for developing financial
growth strategies for their portfolio. Additionally, financial controllers
supporting journals and responsible for management accounting will benefit.
