The below Atypon news may be of interest to Lis-e-journals

SANTA CLARA, California - October 02, 2006 - Atypon Systems, Inc. today
announced the addition of collaborative filtering as well as a powerful new
search interface for its electronic publishing platform. These added
functionalities enhance the user's overall experience through customized
recommendations and an easy-to-use search interface.

Collaborative filtering technology gives users the ability to get to the
articles that interest them faster. By comparing a user's usage history
against all other user histories, collaborative filtering identifies similar
interests between users in order to make tailored article recommendations
for each user. Users will see recommendations displayed under the heading,
"Users who read this article also read."

Atypon's new search interface allows the user to search without having to
think in Boolean terms and provides a clear and effective display of search
results. The interface employs the latest search technology by extracting
both author-provided keywords and computer-derived key phrases from the
articles and displaying these along with the search results as well as when
viewing an article. The user then has the ability to rerun the search with
the additional criteria included.

Atypon is also announcing the immediate release of access icon indicators to
all publishers as a standard feature of Atypon Premuim and Atypon Link. An
access indicator is a small icon next to a journal or article title that
lets the user know whether or not he has access to that content before
trying to access it. This function not only saves the user time and
frustration but also allows librarians to see gaps in their subscriptions
immediately.

In Development

Atypon will soon be introducing collaborative tagging technology.
Collaborative tagging allows users to use descriptive words to "tag"
articles. These tags allow the user to personally categorize information in
articles in addition to searching tags assigned by other users. Tags are
displayed alongside the article title. Publishers choosing to incorporate
collaborative tagging will be providing the latest technology from the
semantic web to their users.

Atypon is also developing services that will strengthen the critical
relationship between publisher and author. These services will allow the
author to be actively involved every step of the production and content
delivery process. The services will include a notification that an article
is online and ready for proofreading and approval and a notification when
the article is published.

The Atypon development plan continues to deliver "future focused" features
and functionality for the benefit of both publishers and their end users. By
constantly monitoring industry developments and investing heavily in
internal R&D, Atypon technology continues to be cutting-edge.

October 4-8, 2006 in Hall 4.2 Stand H450.
