*** Apologies for cross posting *** 27 October 2006 - Workshop led by Professor Lewis Elton Teaching students to write effectively within your discipline LearnHigher and Write Now CETLs at Liverpool Hope University Workshop Aim To bring the discipline expertise together with writing experts to explore ways of helping students learn how to write effectively within their discipline. Workshop Objectives 1. To explore issues surrounding students’ engagement with writing activities within the discipline. 2. To try and make explicit the ‘tacit knowledge’ used by academics in their expectations of students’ writing. 3. To look at the processes through which students develop their discipline writing skills. 4. To identify creative ways in which academics can support students in developing their discipline writing skills. This workshop is specifically for pairs from Institutions; an academic and a writing specialist, to enable joint working and possible longer term strategies to be envisaged.
