Subject: Learner support
professionals
Dear Colleagues
I'm doing a piece of work for the HEA about
learner support networks and organisations and I wonder if you can help. The
idea is that in addition to the support given to students by academic teaching
staff there are many others such as careers people, placement officers and
others who have a direct impact on the student experience. This
is familiar stuff to many who recognise that a contribution to the
student experience is made by all sorts of people in an institution. There are
boundary problems of course, after all, the ladies in the canteen and the man
on the gate have some sort of impact but I don't think we are intending to go
quite that far at the moment. The emphasis will be upon 'professionals'. So
there are some obvious ones such as AGCAS (and CILIP for librarians) that are
quite formal and well-organised and then there will be other looser networks
in other specialist areas. Your own network is a good example of these. There
is no complete list and we have no idea how many there might be.
Do you have any ideas? Can you point me in the
direction of any so I can add them to the list I am building up.
With thanks and best
wishes,
David Pierce
