Good morning everyone,

Last weeks poll results are on the forum for discussion.  This week’s poll has a tenuous link to last weeks in that it requires internet interaction.  Its base of interest however is not aimed at its usefulness to society as a tool but as an element of societal change and segregation.

Last year I read an article on IBNIS (Internet-based Neighbourhood Information Systems) which highlighted the very real possibility of segregation caused by access to information which until recently has not been available to the general population.  In this instance I am referring to the new neighbourhood statistics available on the statistics.gov.uk website.  Not necessarily a new concept but one that is maturing as technologies progress.  What I would like to know from your perspective as GI practitioners is “Do you think that Internet-based Neighbourhood Information Systems will segregate communities”.  Your thoughts and comments are always welcome; the forum now allows guest postings without the need to register so please feel free to comment.

Thank you for your time,

MCG
