Research Assistant in Seismology

A physical sciences graduate is required to work at SEIS-UK, a NERC funded national facility for portable seismic instrumentation and data management based in the Department of Geology. These systems are available for use on research projects organised by members of the UK academic community. The successful candidate is required to work in the team running the facility. The postholder will be responsible for assisting in the development and documentation of instrument use and data management procedures. They will also be required to assist in the training of new equipment users, both in the UK and on research projects worldwide.

Candidates should have experience with geophysics fieldwork (preferably seismic) and be familiar with UNIX and PC computing environments. Experience of basic system administration and writing of script files will be an advantage.  A good first degree in geophysics, physics or earth sciences (with a strong physical science component) is essential.
