A Question of Sex? Gender and Difference in the Hebrew Bible 31 July - 02 August 2006, King's College, London The Department of Theology and Religious Studies, at King's College, London, as a centre of excellence in Biblical Studies, is holding its latest cutting-edge Research Conference Gender and Biblical Studies, entitled A Question of Sex? Gender and Difference in the Hebrew Bible, to be held at our Strand Campus from Monday 31 July, until Wednesday 02 August 2006. Our keynote speakers will include Professor Carol Meyers, of Duke University and Professor Tal Ilan, of the Institut für Judaistik, Freie Universität, Berlin. Proceedings for research will be divided into the three core categories: a.. Gender Differentials in Biblical Law and Ritual b.. Ethnological / Anthropological Approaches to Gender in the Hebrew Bible c. Post Biblical Development of Gender Differentiation (within the Apocrypha, Pseudepigrapha and The Dead Sea Scrolls). The Conference Committee is now calling for papers to be presented, for sessions, lasting 25 minutes, within any of the above categories. The abstracts of the proposed papers should not exceed 200 words and should be sent by e-mail to Dr Deborah Rooke, ([log in to unmask]) by 31 January 2006. Applicants will be notified by early March. Please note that the Committee cannot cover travel and accommodation costs and presenters are expected to register for the conference.
