I was going to say, the detective/noir situation is far more Jungian than Freudian, the detective delibratly chooses to take a case from a cool ice blonde Archetype at, possibly, the expense of a client that doesnt match up to his anima. So the hard bitten detective brings his problems on himself . Also an early non-noir detecive would be Charlie Chan, who plays the role of the older wise man archetype
